Period protection & environment

Make an environmentally friendly choice! Did you know that the average person with periods uses about 12,000 - 16,000 disposable pads or tampons in a lifetime? After every use, these products are discarded and a lot of it ends up in the nature in some way or other. Once in nature, it takes around 500-600 years for them to decompose. Disposable sanitary pads and tampons contain a lot of plastic and, as if that wasn't enough, they usually come individually packaged, with the small plastic sleeve around the tampon and the plastic sleeve around the pad. It seems very wasteful. That's a lot of plastic that is only used once and then thrown away. With Imse's period protection, you can manage a 40-year term with less than 100 sanitary pads or tampons. Just think about the difference between 16,000 and 100!

In Sweden, we burn our rubbish, an approach that is controversial. The burning of rubbish causes the release of toxic substances. In most other places in the world, however, rubbish is sent to landfills, which means that the piles of plastic from sanitary pads, panty liners and tampons are incredibly large and growing bigger every day. However, aside from the amount of waste, the single-use industry also impacts the environment because the manufacturing process and emissions from production damage air, water and wildlife. If you can use a product more than once, you are saving the environment. Our period protection have a 10 year warranty, which means that many disposable pads do not need to be manufactured.

The health benefits are as great as the environmental benefits!

By choosing cloth pads over disposable pads and tampons, you avoid all the plastics, perfumes and chemicals that disposables are typically made of. Plastics and other such materials have been shown to be less conducive to our health, and the chemical cocktail created by combining different materials is rarely tested as a mixture and may therefore pose a more serious risk to health. Many people switching from disposable to cloth pads also get rid of itching and fungus in the genital area, as cloth pads are made of cotton, a material that allows the skin to breathe.
